Boylston Elementary School Reviews

Love this school for my children. Terrific mcas scores & great support for the students. This is an old-time close knit community you don't find much of anymore.

The school is going through some transition right now, looking for a new principal and incorporating a new reading program. The interim principal is excellent! I have a child in the integrated preschool program and this has been a wonderful experience. It also has given me insight into the workings of the special education process. The teachers and sped dept. have been extremely helpful and responsive. This dept. has come far since my son entered into the school system 2 years ago. A complete overhaul, including a state audit and a new director of special ed. I hope I will have a positive experience going forward into the elementary school over the next few years.

Excellent School with great teacher to student ratio. The teachers care for the students. My daughters reading capability is excellent. Great hands on activities.

We moved to Boylston from a large city and all of our children attend BES and we couldn't be happier with the education they are getting, especially when you consider the size of the town. The school is brand new, so the facilities are top notch and clean. There's a fully staffed and equipped computer learning center, enormous and well stocked library and the teachers are certainly a cut above those from the surrounding towns. The student:teacher ratio is excellent, similar to that of a small private school. What strikes you most about the school is the way the students all get along and respect each other. Of course, schools are often a product of parent's participation and expectations and Boylston parents don't let down. There's a very active education foundation run by parents as well I've heard, which speaks volumes about the level of interest in quality of education.

Academic programs are good and well funded. Extracurricular activities are good and well funded but disorganized. There are many involved parents but I found the school to be very quick to try to label a student with a definable problem. This has happened to my family as well as others I have met. I found that the school counselors were rash and not at all thorough in a true evaluation of a problem once they had formed an opinion. Communication between the school and parents is spotty at best. The concerns and opinions of the parents take a back seat to those of the teachers. Unless you are a full time stay at home parent who is able to be completely involved - you are an outsider and are disregarded.

My child has had some truly great teachers. But the principal lacks strong leadership and compassion. All elementary children are not the same; 1st graders should not be treated the same as 6 graders. If you have an academically advanced or special needs child, the school lacks many needed resources mostly because of budget cuts & small town. The test scores say it is a good school, but I don't see it.

I have had a child (or 3) in Boylston Elementary for the past 7 years. The experience has been very positive. The small class sizes and personal attention the children recieve is outstanding. The small, close knit community plays a part in that families are very connected to the school and to eachother. Parental involvement (mostly in the lower grades) is encouraged and welcomed. Special education needs are addressed as a team approach and the team sincerely cares about the needs of the child. All in all, it has been an extremely positive educational experience for my children and for me.

My 3 girls when here for 6 years and because of the small class size, they got very personal attention. 2 of my girls needed special education and the teachers, staff, etc did everything to accommodate them. The school was recently rennovated and has a wonderful learning environment with computer labs, library, new gym. The children are all extremely close and very mature and we had almost no problems in school with discipline, bullies or negative influences. My children all recieved great grades but more importantly a quality eduacation. The only improvement would be more enrichment courses.
